Trish MacDonald nominated PC candidate in Timberlea-Prospect

TIMBERLEA – A registered nurse, union leader and community advocate is looking to bring her decades of experience to Premier Tim Houston’s team.

Trish MacDonald became the Progressive Conservative candidate for Timberlea-Prospect in the next provincial general election when nominations closed October 3, 2024.

“My entire professional life has been about serving others, whether advocating for patients as a nurse or standing up for workers through the power of organized labour.  I am running to be MLA for Timberlea-Prospect to put this experience to work for people,” said MacDonald.  “Tim Houston is leading a team of people that are laser focused on fixing what previous governments have broken.  His government is taking action to build up Nova Scotia in a way that’s compassionate, pragmatic and respectful of different points of view.”

Born and raised in Antigonish, MacDonald and her husband have lived in Timberlea for 33 years.  They are the proud parents of two adult children and grandparents of two.  A graduate of the Victoria General School of Nursing, she was worked on the front lines of healthcare as a registered nurse and is currently employed as a labour relations officer with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU).  In that senior role at NSGEU, MacDonald has navigated complex issues for workers, including contract negotiations.

In addition to her longtime experience in healthcare, MacDonald has been an active community volunteer.  She has held leadership roles in various community initiatives, including organizing Christmas drives for families in need, volunteering in local schools and participating in annual food drives.  As a breast cancer survivor, she has also helped other women in their respective fights for recovery and better health.

“Timberlea-Prospect deserves a strong voice in government and I can’t think of a better person to be that voice as MLA than Trish MacDonald,” said Premier Tim Houston.  “Trish is a fighter, a critical thinker and a problem solver.  Her deep roots in the community and her extensive experience in healthcare and labour relations are exactly what I need as part of my team.”

Tim Houston’s PC team has also delivered record investments in healthcare, housing and tax relief to Nova Scotians, while strongly opposing the Liberal carbon tax.
