MLA Candidate for Timberlea/Prospect
Trish is an experienced leader, dedicated advocate, and compassionate community member
running for MLA in Timberlea/Prospect. With a career spanning 37 years as a Registered
Nurse (RN) and a Labour Relations Officer (LRO) at NSGEU, she has spent her life serving
others and fighting for the rights of workers. Her deep-rooted commitment to public service and
community involvement makes her the ideal candidate to represent Timberlea/Prospect in Nova
Scotia.


Trish was born and raised in Antigonish, NS. Trish moved to Halifax in 1985, and graduated
from the VG School of Nursing in 1987.


Trish is a wife and mother of two adult children, grandmother of two grandchildren, and married
for 36 years to her husband Joe, and has been living in Timberlea for 33 years.

Empathy and Community Engagement
Trish’s passion for community work was evident when, in 2022, she connected with a young
mother battling breast cancer—a challenge she personally understood, having completed her
own chemotherapy just months earlier. She offered emotional support, practical advice, and
donated wigs and hats to bring comfort during treatment. This experience reinforced her belief
in the power of one-on-one engagement and the importance of listening to the personal stories
of her community.
One of the key issues she aims to address is the lack of affordable housing. Having witnessed
firsthand the struggles of families being "renovicted" or forced out of their homes, Trish is
determined to work towards policies that keep residents in the community they love. Her
approach to governance is inclusive: she believes every voice matters, especially those who are
underrepresented. She ensures their concerns are heard and addressed by creating an
open-door policy and staying readily accessible.

Capability and Leadership Experience
With a track record of problem-solving and critical thinking, Trish thrives in challenging
environments. Her leadership roles in various community initiatives, including organizing

Christmas drives for families in need, volunteering in local schools, and participating in annual
food drives, have had a lasting positive impact on her community.
In her professional life, Trish is known as a ferocious advocate for Nurses and Health Care
workers in Nova Scotia. She has navigated complex situations as an LRO, representing
workers and negotiating contracts. Always the first one to stand up and show up, she brings this
same level of diligence and thoughtfulness to her approach as a leader. She understands that
while people often want immediate solutions, true change takes time and patience, and she is
committed to long-term, substantive improvements in healthcare and other vital services for the
people of her community.

Commitment to Public Service

Trish has devoted her entire career to public service. Whether advocating for patients as an RN
or representing Nurses as a Labour Relations Officer, her work has always been centered
on serving others. Her love for advocacy and her ability to ask tough questions, challenge the
status quo, and find practical solutions make her well-established and well-equipped to
represent Timberlea/Prospect.
Her top priority in this election is to listen to the people of Timberlea/Prospect, understand their
needs, and advocate on their behalf. She is aware that learning the ropes of this new role will
take time, and she asks for patience as she immerses herself fully in serving her community.

Throughout her career, Trish has worked with diverse aspects of the community, including
nurses, civil servants, and community leaders. Her experience in difficult negotiations has
taught her the value of patience, respect for the process, and professionalism, even in heated
moments. She has honed her ability to de-escalate conflicts and facilitate productive
conversations through in-person meetings or direct communication, ensuring that all voices are
heard and respected. Most importantly, she shares in your frustration and can roll up her
sleeves to get things done.

As a potential MLA, Trish is committed to running an accessible, open-minded and fast acting

office. She plans to foster accountability through dialogue and an honest communication style.
Weekly team meetings will ensure everyone stays on track and addresses issues promptly,
ensuring that the office runs smoothly and serves the community effectively.
